Capacity planning

The goal of capacity planning is to assess the resource requirements of a system and to plan how these requirements can be satisfied.

At the minimum it is always necessary to assess the volume requirements ("how much space is required?"), but it must be considered of equal importance to assess the performance requirements.

Without assessing the performance requirements there will be introduced a risk that - possibly already at system deployment - there will be problems with unacceptable response times.

Martin Berg Consult can assist assessing and documenting the performance requirements.

This activity will for the main part consist of gathering information about transaction requirements and application performance characteristics followed by an assessment and documentation.

With a background in this assessment combined with the chosen strategy for IT infrastructure a capacity plan can be created.
